Plastic Surgeons: Get a Real One!


Many physicians offering cosmetic services like liposuction, facial fillers or wrinkle removal have an M.D. degree but have not had training beyond medical school in general surgery or plastic surgery techniques.

A recent study in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official surgical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) choose 1,867 cosmetic surgeons in Southern California and then looked at their training, if any, in cosmetic plastic surgery.

It is not illegal for any physician with a license to start offering cosmetic services and calling him-or-herself a cosmetic surgeon.

Cosmetic surgery tends to attract non-plastic surgeons, largely due to payment arrangements, experts say. Read more>>
